John Thayer Casey
Although he started painting in oils at the age of twelve, the artist received his formal art training at the University of Oregon, earning the B.A. degree in drawing and painting. Graduate work at the California College of Arts & Crafts led to the Master of Fine Arts degree in painting.

Mr. Casey taught studio art and art theory at Western Oregon University from 1965 to his early retirement in 1988, and is an Emeritus Professor of Art at that institution. He has also taught at Oregon State University and C.C.A.C.

The artist's work has been exhibited in juried and invitational shows at the Denver Art Museum, Seattle Art Museum, Portland Art Museum, and Oakland Art Museum, as well as numerous smaller museums, art galleries, colleges and universities. His drawings, paintings and sculpture are found in public and private collections in Oregon, California, Washington, and New York. One of the artistŐs paintings was included in the book Best of Acrylic Painting, published in 1996 by Rockport Publishers. He is also listed in Who's Who in American Art.

  Artistic Statement
In my watercolor paintings my intent is to capture a reasonable likeness of the beauty, structure, and expressive potential of the subject without losing the unique character of the watercolor medium.
